AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY REVIVES THE NATIONAL ART OF PATCHWORK QUILTING
To promote national decorative and applied arts, a master class titled “Mağynaly quraqtar” was organized and presented to the general public. The main goal of the event was to provide a comprehensive introduction to the deep meaning of the traditional art of patchwork quilting inherited from ancestors, highlight its educational and spiritual value, and increase interest in traditional arts.
The master class was conducted by Aizhan Umbetova — a vocational training master of the Department of Physics and Technologies at the Higher School of IT and Natural Sciences of Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University, and a researcher of Eastern patchwork quilting. She shared her experience, providing detailed insights into the history of the art of quraq quraу, its compositional features, and the symbolic significance of each ornament.
During the event, participants not only learned traditional methods and techniques of patchwork quilting but also received useful information on the possible applications of this art in modern life, fashion, and interior design. The master class was held in a practical format, allowing participants to work hands-on with patchwork compositions.
The educational meeting became an important initiative aimed at preserving national cultural heritage, passing down craft traditions from generation to generation, and developing creative potential. Such events contribute to growing public interest in traditional arts and the broader promotion of national values.
The event was organized by Zhadira Rakhátova — a research associate in the Department of Folk and Decorative-Applied Arts at the East Kazakhstan Regional Architectural-Ethnographic and Natural-Landscape Museum-Reserve.
Participants included members of the projects “Alaman quraq” and “Köshpendiler körpesi”, implemented since 2023, as well as members of the “Asyl Äzheler Alqasy” association from the Ulan district, who shared their skills and supported the event.
