OPEN CLASS ‘GLIMPSES OF ITALY’ AT AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY

At Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University, an open class titled “Glimpses of Italy” was held as part of the methodological decade of the Higher School of Humanities. The event was organized for second-year students of the educational program 6B01707 – Foreign Languages (IP). The class was conducted by senior lecturer Elena Zhang.

The purpose of the lesson was to deepen students’ cultural knowledge of Italy and to foster sustained motivation for learning the Italian language.

During the session, students became familiar with the country’s cultural, historical, and geographical features. The presentation highlighted Italy’s major cities — Rome, Venice, and Florence — along with their architectural landmarks, cultural traditions, and contributions to world heritage. Special attention was given to outstanding historical figures, as well as the development of music and ballet.

A separate segment of the class focused on Italian cuisine: students discussed popular dishes and traditional treats that have become symbols of national culture. National holidays and festivals were also reviewed, including the famous Italian carnival.

The interactive part of the event featured a country-studies quiz in the Kahoot! format, organized by student Ayazhan Oralgazina. Winners were announced based on the quiz results. In addition, students had the opportunity to practice Italian with the support of student Aleksey Borodulin, who completed an Italian language course with Alessandro Figus at the University of Genoa last December.

The class was conducted in a lively interactive format, creating an atmosphere of academic engagement and intellectual curiosity. The objectives were successfully achieved, and students demonstrated a high level of activity and interest.
